Owner Name: Executive Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater
Implementing Branch: Alexandria Branch
Project Description: Landscape Works - Construction of an Administrative Building with an Area of 300 m2
Project Objective: Landscape the Eastern Wastewater Treatment Plant
This project represents a pioneering model in the field of sustainability and green architecture. It was designed and implemented in compliance with LEED requirements to achieve high resource efficiency and provide a healthy and comfortable environment for users.
Energy Efficiency: Thanks to high-performance thermal insulation systems, efficient air conditioning systems, and smart, low-intensity lighting strategies, the building is expected to achieve a 25% to 30% reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional buildings.
Water Consumption Rationalization: The project achieves a reduction in indoor water consumption of up to 55%, while completely eliminating the use of potable water for irrigation through an innovative system for reusing graywater and rainwater.
Sustainable Mobility: The project site is connected to a non-isolated urban environment, providing mass transit and environmentally friendly transportation options. 10% of the parking spaces are equipped with electric vehicle infrastructure, contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions.
Project Site Management: Soil and natural ecosystems were protected during construction. Resilient infrastructure was also adopted to manage stormwater through permeable pavements and water collection and reuse systems, reducing flood risk and supporting the natural water cycle.
Waste Management: The project committed to reducing construction waste to less than 50 kg/m² through reuse and recycling, while establishing waste management protocols and reusing materials even during operation.
Indoor Environmental Quality: User health and comfort were enhanced through:
Adherence to ASHRAE 62.1 indoor ventilation standards.
Using solar-reflective materials to reduce the heat island effect and energy consumption.
Smoking is completely prohibited within and around the building.
Using air filtration systems and controlling volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Providing a design that achieves thermal and acoustic comfort and adequate lighting.
Smart resource monitoring: The building is equipped with advanced water and energy meters, along with leak detection systems, to ensure rational use and minimize waste.
Thanks to these integrated strategies, the project aims to achieve LEED certification, becoming a landmark in supporting sustainability, reducing environmental impact, and providing a healthy and efficient work and living environment.
This approach is in line with Egypt's Vision 2030, which places environmental sustainability and resource efficiency at the heart of its development plans, reflecting the Arab Contractors Company's commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future.
